Foil Relief Art and Facial Symmetry



This past week at New Artists the third graders worked on two different art projects. We started a foil relief project that we'll be finishing next week. For this project the students had to sketch out a design on white paper, transfer it onto thicker black board, and trace the design in tacky glue. Here's a sneak peek into some of their designs; I can't wait to see how the final projects turn out!  





Our second project of the day let the third-graders test out their understanding of symmetry and their skill at drawing faces. In this project, students chose a magazine ad with a model's face on it, folded it in half vertically, and tried to draw the other half. This project was fairly advanced for most of the kids and many of them got frustrated, but in the end everyone put in their best effort and created some awesome drawings! Take a look:
