Taking a Closer Look

This week for New Artists we explored texture. I brought in a few different types of texture samples, from shiny metals to leaves and cotton balls. The task was to look as closely as possible and to try to magnify the textures onto the paper. First step was to pick our items.

Next the kids got straight to work feeling and observing their objects. They observed the different lines and patterns.

They all had quite a variety of objects to share at their tables and were able to see all of the differences and how to show them.

As you can see they all came out pretty great! The kids really focused and were able to get a lot of detail in all of their drawings. We had a great time passing around our objects and comparing the way they felt and looked.

This is a great project to get kids into observing the every day things around them a little bit closer and seeing a little bit more. It's a lot of fun too!
