Last Thursday at our New Artists program at Phillips Elementary, Maggie and I had our kids working with crayons and watercolors to experiment with different mediums. For a bit of an added bonus, I gave my 4th and 5th graders the option of sprinkling some salt on their wet watercolors to give it a unique appearance. We provided white crayons to draw with so when they painted over it with watercolor, the paint wouldn't stick to the waxy surface. A couple of the younger ones wrote secret messages to their friends that could only be decoded by painting over it. Here's a few masterpieces our kiddos created:
