Bridge Building Competitions

Last week Annie and Maggie did a Pittsburgh bridges enrichment activity. They divided the classes up into teams and had each team compete with answering some Pittsburgh trivia, then followed it up with a bridge building competition. The 4th-5th graders seemed to grasp the concept and purpose of the bridges a little better than the 2nd-3rd graders, but the younger class really enjoyed the competition aspect and got very creative.  Each team was given the same amount of building materials and told that their bridge would be judged by 'tallest', 'most creative' and 'strongest'. The 'strongest' received the most points. They loved the competitiveness of the activity and have requested to do similar games since.

A couple snapshots of the bridges:

I'm pretty sure I had just as much fun as the kids with this competition!
