Let's Get Historical- Visiting the Heinz History Center

Greetings from snowy Allentown!

On Saturday, March 11th, eight students and their families joined Brashear staff and volunteers from North Allegheny High School for an afternoon at the Heinz History Center. History Center staff, Nathan Rodda visited us back in January to talk about their exhibit on historical toys and was our host for our field trip, sharing information and fun activities in the History Center's different exhibits.

#PIXburgh was all about photography as a science, art, and means to document our history. We used iPads to collage images that students took in the different sections of the exhibit, meanwhile, learning about Pittsburgh through historical photographs and videos. Our students loved experiencing the early 3D technology of the stereoscope.

In the Discovery Place, students were transported us back in time using green screen technology!

During our free time at the Heinz History Center, students searched for items from our organization's namesake, John Brashear. The items pictured below were donated by the Brashear Association. You can see more of our collection when you visit our main offices on Sarah St in the South Side. Can you find this display the next time you visit the History Center?

The best part of the day is always spending time together and learning about each other's families. Thank you again to all the staff at the Heinz History Center for their thoughtful lessons. We'll be back at the History Center in October for our 100th anniversary celebration!
