Brashear Teens: Omelettes with Liz!

Hey guys! Danyelle back again from the Hilltop! This week, Liz from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank returned for Kids Cook! This week, the kids learned about the power of protein and made omelettes.

Our programs tend to start with just a handful of kids, but once things get going, every one wants to be involved! Liz instructed the teens how to make the omelettes step-by-step, starting with beating the egg. The students also included veggies in their omelettes to get them to try new foods and increase nutrients. Liz explained that it was best to cook the veggies a little bit first to soften them up before pouring the egg over them.

Making omelettes is a lot of fun, but could be kinda difficult. Some of the teens found it hard to wait for the egg to cook and flip the omelette over in one piece, but some of them were naturals! It's important to think of skills that the students would be easily able to implement at home as well as during our sessions with Liz. All of the kids said this would be something they could easily do on their own and wanted to make them for their families the next day/weekend!

As you can see, the finished products turned out amazing. The students really enjoyed themselves and the omelettes tasted great, especially with melty cheese and spicy salsa on top! It looks like we have some future chefs in our group!

Join us next Wednesday, February 17 at 4 pm for Game Night. We've got the snacks, Jenga, Twister, and Monopoly...all you need to bring is yourself! See you there!

Danyelle
